My name is Shamim, I am a disability activist in Bangladesh
“Lockdown meant many people could not leave their homes to buy food. They were in danger of being forgotten and at risk of starvation. I knew people wanted to help, but they didn’t know how. So, I started to coordinate the emergency response.”
Your donation today will ensure that people with disabilities are not forgotten.
What is happening in Bangladesh?
Bangladesh is a country with a massive population, a staggering 10% of which are believed to be disabled (over 16 million people) and many of them live in challenging rural areas.
Disabled activists in Bangladesh have reported that 63% of people with disabilities are not receiving the same support as non-disabled people.
Your support for our appeal is urgent - please donate today.
Our research shows that on average, disabled people’s earnings have reduced to less than half (from £167 a month to £58).
Many people are now struggling to feed their families and surviving on less than a meal a day.
Our funders will match your gift.
Help us to give people in Bangladesh a future with dignity as they rebuild their lives following the destruction of COVID-19.
For every £1 you donate, our funders will give a further £1 towards our work. That means a £36 donation will be worth £72 today.
Donations received up to £5,800 will be matched. Your donation will support our disability activists and partners across Africa and Asia to fight COVID-19, poverty, and exclusion.
